CSIR-IICT celebrated ‘National Technology Day’ on a virtual platform by conferring the AV Rama Rao Technology Award 2021 on Prof. Sandeep Verma, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology.
Dr. A.V. Rama Rao Young Scientist Awards, which are also instituted by CSIR-IICT and sponsored by AVRA Laboratories, were conferred on eminent researchers below 40 years of age and this year, the awards were presented to Dr. Chandra M. R. Volla, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Mumbai, and Dr. P. Anbarasan, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Chennai.

As UK retailers shuttered their doors in March 2020 for what would be the first of successive national lockdowns, mainland China was opening up again. More than a year later, life in China – including shopping – is largely back to normal, providing a lifeline for retailers from the west, which continue to battle government restrictions and shrinking revenues.
The International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook shows China was the only advanced or emerging economy with GDP growth in 2020, at 2.3%. Its most recent update in April predicts 8.4% growth for 2021. By comparison, UK GDP shrank by 9.9% in 2020, and is expected to grow 5.3% in 2021.

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-G) on Wednesday signed a MoU with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), US, to set up the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at IIT-G. The first batch of B.Tech students for this school will be admitted through JEE in the academic year 2021- 22.
Apart from providing time and expertise for academic and research activities in this new school, distinguished professors from top US universities will act as strategic advisers for the school.
The collaboration to set up the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence school will usher in new opportunities for students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The MoU was signed virtually by Prof. TG Sitharam, director of IIT-G, and Rahul Mehta, chief executive officer at Mehta Family Foundation, in the presence of a galaxy of luminaries and Dr Rajiv I Modi, chairman, board of governors, IIT-G, and Prof. Krishnaswamy Vijayraghavan, principal s
