Family members of Marcus Hartsfield, 27, said toxicology reports confirmed he was not on drugs, contrary to what was initially reported by the Lane County District Attorney’s Office. Hartsfield was killed by an Oakridge Police officer after the officer responded to a home on Rainbow Street for reports of a suicide in progress. When he arrived, the officer found Hartsfield in a fight with several other people, all covered in blood. The officer said Hartsfield lunged at him with what was later determined to be a razor blade before he shot him.

Oregon Just Decriminalizes All Illegal Drugs as Measure 110 Kicks In

A ballot measure that decriminalized the possession of small amounts of illegal drugs in Oregon took effect on Monday. Oregon becomes the country s first state to decriminalize the possession and personal use of illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine after the passage of Measure 110 by more than 58 percent of the vote last November.  Measure 110 reclassifies possession of small amounts of illegal drugs from a misdemeanor to a civil violation with a $100 fine or participating in a health assessment. Instead of arresting and putting people in jail for illegal drugs, the law offers aid to those who need it. It will also shift more than $100 million a year of marijuana tax revenue to support addiction recovery.
