Business confidence is tracking ahead of consumer confidence, with local firms projecting a three-year path to recovery from COVID-19, rather than 12 months, as previously indicated.
So says the latest Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Survey of Business and Consumer Confidence Survey. It shows the business confidence index for 2020 at 120.6 points, down from 135 points in 2019. There was an uptick in the index during the final quarter of 2020, with 87 per cent of businesses saying they anticipate a recovery during the short to medium term.
There also were fewer businesses who felt they might fall by the wayside, according to Don Anderson, Managing Director of Market Research Services, the company commissioned to conduct the survey.
