Aliyu Isah, National President of OPMAN made the announcement on Wednesday.
According to him, the traders have suffered several attacks by the unknown gunmen in the region, hence the decision to suspend supplies until normalcy returns.
He claimed that two trucks loaded with the produce were recently hijacked by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
DAILY POST reports that the region has been plunged into security crisis for over three months now as suspected members of IPOB and the group’s security outfit, Eastern Security Network, ESN, have been accused of attacking security operatives and government facilities in the areas.
The Onion Producers and Marketers Association (OPMAN) has announced its decision to suspend the supply of onions to the south-east owing to insecurity.
They said it was sad that Twitter allowed its platform for Kanu and his likes to propagate hate, killing of security operatives and destruction of critical infrastructure but quickly descended on President Buhari for reading the riot act to trouble makers.
President Buhari had in a series of tweets on Tuesday via his verified Twitter handle, @Mbuhari, tweeted: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The Onion Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (OPMAN) has announced its decision to suspend onion supply to the South-East over insecurity.
The National President of OPMAN, Aliyu Isah, made the announcement on Wednesday.
He said the association’s decision was based on the recent hijack of two of their members’ trucks by suspected IPOB members.
IPOB members had last week hijacked two truck-full of onions from the North in Imo State and distributed their contents to the public.
