Canandaigua NY outdoor dining may be here to stay

Or, for that matter, for good? The Central on Main outdoor dining concept, which was established last fall, allowed customers to gather outside in the parking lot between Simply Crépes restaurant and the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce to enjoy meals on weekends.  City Council on Thursday night unanimously voted to renew the concept and extend it, starting Friday, April 16, and continuing until the end of October. The city is working to relocate at least two handicapped parking spaces in that lot, although officials believe there is ample parking to accommodate the change. City Manager John Goodwin said the hope and the plan for The Central on Main is to extend beyond the COVID-19 time frame. Over time, that could mean music on weekends, weekday hours for establishments that are only open for breakfast and lunch, special event space for downtown Canandaigua Business Improvement District events, a potential food truck rodeo when brick-and-mortar restaurants are closed for a night

Connecting city of Canandaigua, lakefront part of community input session Thursday

Fingerlakes1.com Menu How should the city of Canandaigua connect the lakefront and various commercial areas within its boundaries? That’s a question being explored by city officials, who told The Daily Messenger that crossing 5&20 is a major challenge, whether you’re walking or driving. This week, on February 18, a public workshop will take place at 7 p.m. to explore the topic. A study is being completed with grant money obtained for the Canandaigua Local Development Corp. That’s a venture between the City, Town, and Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce. “People are coming from out of town, out of state,” Mayor Palumbo told the Messenger. “I think it will help commerce a tremendous amount to be able to move people around.”
