Sweden will ease some of its COVID-19 restrictions from June 1 as new cases have fallen sharply in recent weeks, the government said on Thursday, as it presented a roadmap to open up society.
The remaining rules and recommendations will be eased in five steps with the aim to have all of them wound down by September. The voluntary guidelines include asking citizens to work from home, wearing masks in certain situations and to keep social interactions as low as possible.
Sweden registered 1366 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, health agency statistics showed, the lowest number of new daily cases for more than seven months.

On Wednesday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine can be safely stored at refrigerator temperatures for up to a month, an expansion from the previous five-day limit. The authorization followed Pfizer’s submission of data to the agency supporting extended refrigerator storage of undiluted, thawed vials. The European Medicines Agency also authorized the change last week. The relaxed storage requirement should lead to more widespread availability of the vaccine by facilitating the ability of vaccine providers, such as community doctors’ offices, to receive, store, and administer the vaccine, according to Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.
Vaccines are suddenly looking less like a theoretical hope than a nearly imminent reality.

… Twenty million Americans could get a COVID-19 shot before the end of 2020, the leading scientist driving the US government’s coronavirus vaccine initiative said on Friday.
This sounds crazy fast, but Pfizer has been manufacturing large quantities of its unapproved vaccine for some time and has several million doses already.
Moncef Slaoui, the chief advisor to Operation Warp Speed, laid out the potential availability of a coronavirus vaccine over the next few months at a Friday press conference at the White House. After December, 25 million to 30 million people in the US could get a shot each month.

PARIS (Reuters) â Some EU countries still want Brussels to strike a deal to buy Valnevaâs COVID-19 vaccine candidate despite a recent setback in talks, as the bloc aim to shore up and diversify supplies, sources familiar with the talks told Reuters.
A spokesman for the European Commission said last week the French vaccine maker had not met conditions required to reach an agreement, two days after the company said it would now give priority to a country by country approach.
The EU concluded exploratory talks with Valneva in January for the supply of up to 60 million doses of its vaccine, which uses inactivated whole virus particles and is derived from the technology behind its licensed Japanese encephalitis shot.
