With hospitals and health systems stretched by the pandemic, Russian expats working elsewhere in Europe are now forced to book flights back home in order to get treatment in the country’s own clinics, a top lawmaker has said.
A non-profit group has been raising eyebrows in the Council of Europe for its questionable lobbying activities, a British lawmaker told EURACTIV.
Ian Liddell-Grainger, who leads the European Conservatives Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, has requested the council investigate the NGO Open Dialogue Foundation which he says has been openly bragging about influencing members.
In Brussels, the foundation is known for lobbying in support of Mukhtar Ablyazov, a fugitive technocrat from Kazakhstan now living in France.
EURACTIV contacted Open Dialogue Foundation, who said the accusations against them were inspired by the PACE Polish delegation’s chair Arkadiusz Mularczyk (PiS) and supported by Ian Liddell-Grainger. Martin Mycielski, vice-president and director of public affairs at Open Dialogue Foundation, pointed to a Twitter thread which he said debunks the accusations.
