Wellington scoop co nz » QC finds bullying and sexual harassment in pockets of Weta Digital

Report from RNZ The independent review by Miriam Dean QC of Weta Digital, the Wellington company founded by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, has found that staff were not protected from bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination. More than 200 current and former staff were interviewed by the QC; there were 80 complaints about bullying and 120 of poor conduct. The review found Weta Digital’s HR practices, policies and processes were “immature” for an organisation of its size and success. Miriam Dean said it did not have a “toxic” culture but there were problems in pockets of the organisation. The company’s chief executive Prem Akkaraju and founders Sir Peter Jackson and Dame Fran Walsh said they would work to implement the recommendations in the report.

Minimum wage rise: 175k Kiwis set to get a pay rise of $44 a week (Photo / Getty) Thu, 17 Dec 2020, 4:13PM Minimum wage will increase to $20 per hour on April 1 with the Government following through on its commitment from last term. The deadline has been welcomed by the Council of Trade Unions, saying it will help the New Zealander s who are the working poor facing rent increases. But National s workplace relations spokesman Scott Simpson called the commitment a cynical re-announcement of the last Government s promise designed to draw attention away from the pressure on Speaker Trevor Mallard. Simpson said the minimum wage rise had been signalled last term and questioned why a press statement was issued on the day Mallard was grilled by a select committee on his $330,000 defamation case.
