How Cuomo Is Looming Over The NYC Mayor’s Race

During a mayoral forum this week that focused on what types of state policies the candidates would pursue in Albany, City Councilmember Carlos Menchaca, a left-leaning contender in the race, was asked how he would handle working with Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The forum s moderator Ben Max of Gotham Gazette, reminded Menchaca that in the 2018 gubernatorial election he endorsed Cuomo s opponent, the actress-turned-progressive-activist Cynthia Nixon.
In First Mayoral Debate, Maya Wiley Presses Andrew Yang On Nondisclosure Agreements

In what was the sharpest jab of the first mayoral debate of the season, Maya Wiley took Andrew Yang to task on Sunday over reports that his campaign had used confidentiality agreements and cultivated a culture that was described as demeaning to women.
“As a civil rights lawyer, I was shocked to hear that you have a nondisclosure agreement, that sounds very Trumpian,” Wiley said to Yang. Will you commit to allowing your campaign staff to complain publicly about workplace misconduct?”

“This is a critical moment for real leadership,” said RXR CEO Scott Rechler, who is also chairman of the Regional Plan Association. “There s no superman out there, but we want someone that s capable, someone that s well-intentioned, someone that is not tied down by ideology and someone that reaches out to the broader New York community to come together to rebuild the city.”
More than 30 people have thrown their hat in the ring, including Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and city Comptroller Scott Stringer, both of whom lead in fundraising, with $7.3M and $6.5M, respectively, per the New York City Campaign Finance Board. Ray Maguire, who is leaving his job as vice chairman at Citigroup to enter the race, now has $4.8M of private funds in his coffers.
