The Supreme Court on Friday said it would hear on May 31 a plea seeking directions to cancel Class XII examinations in the wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.
The matter came up for hearing before a Bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari.
At the outset, the Bench asked petitioner Mamta Sharma whether she has served the copy of the plea to the counsel representing the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
When the petitioner said she will serve the copy of the petition to the parties, the Bench observed, “You do it. We will have it on Monday (May 31)”.

As a high-level meeting is being held today with all the States/UT education ministers, education secretaries and chairpersons of state examination boards and stakeholders to discuss the proposals for the conduct of examinations for Class 12 and entrance examinations for professional courses, Twitter was flooded with requests to cancel board exams.

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) to cancel Class 12 examination 2021 by Advocate Mamta Sharma. The plea demands that the Class 12 result must be declared on the basis of ‘objective methodology’ within a specific timeframe.

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) to cancel the CBSE and ICSE Class XII examinations.
CBSE through its letter dated April 14 had cancelled the examination for class X and postponed the examination for class XII. CISCE through its circulars dated April 16 and April 19 had cancelled the examination for class X and postponed the examination for class XII for an unspecified period.
