National Police Week postponed due to pandemic

Share and speak up for justice, law & order. Washington D.C. Organizers of National Police Week have announced that the May events have been postponed until October 2021. The host organizations of National Police Week, which include the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum, the Fraternal Order of Police and Auxiliary (FOP), and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S), announced this week that they made the “difficult but necessary decision” to postpone in-person events of National Police Week to October 13-17, 2021, in Washington, D.C. The original event was to be held May 11-16, 2021. The organizers cited the inability to secure necessary permits in time for in-person gatherings due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Tallahassee Democrat According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, President Joe Biden will be ordering flags flown at half-staff on all federal properties for five days in honor of the 500,000 Americans who have been killed by the COVID-19 virus. The United States passed the grim milestone Monday, according to the Johns Hopkins University dashboard. The toll comes less than a year after the coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic.  Five hundred candles glowed around President Joe Biden as he stood outside the White House in a moment of silence to honor the lives of the more than 500,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19.

412th Security Forces Squadron members at last year’s National Police Week retreat ceremony. Team Edwards and the 412th Security Forces Squadron will observe National Police Week with a slate of events May 15-19, 2017. Police week is a time designated to remember and celebrate past and present civilian and military law enforcement officers, as well as the survivors of those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duties. The week is observed to ensure they are not forgotten. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
