On April 29-30 Friends of Sabeel North America organized a highly successful conference in Santa Cruz CA, titled “Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions at the Crossroads of Campus, Church & Community.” Local rabbis and other leaders in the Jewish community, including the director of Santa Cruz Hillel, tried hard to shut it down, focusing on the Peace United Church of Christ that hosted the conference. The juggernaut of pressure, exerted not only on the conference organizers and local Christian clergy, but directly on the lay leaders of the UCC church to prevail on their pastor to block the conference as flagrantly anti-Semitic, included letters and opinion pieces in the local newspaper, The Sentinel. The conference went on, filling the large church with close to 400 attendees.

Services for a Fredericksburg woman, 85 year old Cora Hartson, are Saturday at 10:30am at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Friends may call 4-7pm Friday at Hugeback Johnson funeral home in Fredericksburg, with a 6:30pm scripture service, and an hour before services at the church. A private family service will take place at Orleans Lutheran church, burial in the church cemetery. Lindstrom funeral home is assisting the family.

The service will be live-streamed at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday on the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home Facebook page. The family asks that social distancing be observed. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2021, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in Fredericksburg. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
