Simulation helps refine new medical guidelines

Simulation helps refine new medical guidelines ANI | Updated: Jan 29, 2021 08:44 IST Washington [US], January 29 (ANI): A new study from UT Southwestern s Department of Pediatrics has revealed that a viable way to quickly refine and educate new medical guidelines and educate hospital staff in new procedures is through simulation. The findings published recently in the journal Pediatric Quality and Safety and originally shaped around new COVID-19-related pediatric resuscitation procedures at UTSW and Children s Health, could eventually be used to help implement other types of guidelines at medical centres nationwide. For decades, U.S. hospitals have used the same standard procedures for CPR and intubation. But when the COVID-19 pandemic began early last year, some details of these procedures needed to change explains Blake E. Nichols, M.D., assistant professor of paediatrics at UTSW and a critical care physician at Children s Health.

Study shows children suffer in poor quality housing

Study shows children suffer in poor quality housing ANI | Updated: Jan 29, 2021 08:57 IST Washington [US], January 29 (ANI): A new nationally representative study led by researchers at Nationwide Children s Hospital, has found poor-quality housing is independently associated with poorer pediatric health and suggests ways health care providers and housing programs may address the findings. As per the findings published in the Journal of Child Health Care, Holes in floors, cracks in walls, plumbing issues and/or problems with pests are linked with overall poorer pediatric health and higher health care use in a nationally representative study. Housing instability and homelessness are widely understood to have an impact on health, and certain housing problems have been linked to specific childhood health conditions, such as mould with asthma. But it has not been clear how overall housing quality may affect children especially those who are at r

Study on risk factors for intraoperative pressure injury in aortic surgery

Study on risk factors for intraoperative pressure injury in aortic surgery ANI | Updated: Jan 23, 2021 09:22 IST Washington [US], January 23 (ANI): In a new study, researchers consider risk factors for intraoperative pressure injury in aortic surgery. The study was published in the journal Cardiovascular Innovations and Applications . Intraoperative pressure injuries are some of the most significant health problems in clinical practice. Patients undergoing aortic surgery are at high risk of developing an intraoperative pressure injury, with an incidence much higher than that associated with other types of cardiac surgery. In this article, the authors identify risk factors associated with an increased risk of intraoperative pressure injury in patients undergoing aortic surgery concluding that nurses should thoroughly assess the risk of intraoperative pressure injury and implement appropriate preventative interventions, particularly in high-
