This is a bad idea for a number of reasons.Even if Cubs are embarking on a fire sale, Baez is their undisputed star and would cost a ton.Why give up valuable prospects at a position that is loaded with very good FAs like Semien, Simmons and Didi who wouldn t cost any prospects.Right now the Twins have crying needs for the bullpen, starters and a DH.Likely our surplus of prospects could help fill these needs without breaking the bank. specialiststeve, rdehring and bobs like this whosafraidofluigirussolo
It seems like some of the talk nationally about the Cubs retooling or rebuilding has been that they can t or shouldn t trade Báez or Bryant because they had rough years in 2020 and the return won t be worth it. However, if the Cubs really are motivated to sell, and that rough recent patch plus only one year of control left limits the price, then this is a very interesting idea.
If this glowing report is to be true - let it happen already then.
Dobnak, Duran, and Balazovic to the rotation backed up by Thorpe and Smeltzer. Berrios, Maeda, and Pineda can lead the way.
The savings can then be spent on adding Liam Hendriks and bringing Tyler Clippard back for help in the bullpen.
Naturally, we will want Realmuto to help these young guns out and he fits in our new budget too.
Just a few moves and the Twins are set and near the $120 million roster so many seem to prefer as well.
The theme of the piece is patience - this would not be patient. The Twins of old (and several other franchises) have messed up young pitchers via the baptism by fire. Let them gain their experience in the minors - pitching wasn t the Twins problem last year, and my guess is there will be enough this year as well without leaps of faith with the young pitchers mentioned.

Over the past couple of offseasons we’ve seen Derek Falvey and Thad Levine make moves to take the Minnesota Twins to new heights. Having captured two straight AL Central Division titles, there’s only one gift worthy of pursuit in 2021.

He was joined by a few other free agents and a big trade that landed Kenta Maeda. So far this winter the market as a whole has moved at a pace slow enough to make a glacier blush. There are names out there that can help the Twins, and there’s some we have yet to consider. The only goal this offseason though should be a Postseason trip that results in a string of victories.

The Twins announced the signing of Glenn Sparkman this week. While it’s far from an exciting signing, it’s one that raised my eyebrow for more reasons than just the whiff rate on his slider. What if I told you the lifelong Royal had ties to several of the Twins top pitching prospects?
Image courtesy of © Jesse Johnson - USA TODAY Sports Years ago a young Glenn Sparkman was dominating the Minor Leagues. This drew the excitement of a baseball fan by the name of Connor Kurcon who later found out that several things were amiss in the numbers Sparkman was accumulating. He was much older than the competition, several of his ratios were unsustainable and his outlook as a starter was being boosted by numbers accumulated in relief outings.
