The Downtown Improvement District is using $90,000 from various resources to buy tables, chairs, outdoor heaters, planter barriers and other items to make sidewalk dining more appetizing. With COVID restrictions still hindering many from returning to work, a second phase has been launched. Local artists show resiliency COREY MCMAKEN | The Journal Gazette Local musician Todd Harrold says that, like many people, he had “a real weird year” in 2020 as he wondered how he was going to pay bills, keep his house and support his family. The 56-year-old has relied on drum lessons and music gigs to make a living since 2003. After the pandemic s initial shutdowns, Harrold was able to play a good number of shows July through October, but then everything started to shut down again as COVID-19 positivity rates increased late in 2020. An example of his weird year: He recently performed at The Club Room at the Clyde and realized he forgot what order to put everything in the car so all his gear would fit.

ARCH lectures are going virtual this year

FORT WAYNE — ARCH’s 2021 Fun & Free Lecture Series offers its audience more than a century of new ways to see this place we call home — all presented in a new way. With the support The History Center and due to ongoing COVID-19 health restrictions, in-person lectures will not be offered to the public this year. ARCH will livestream its lectures to everyone who requests a Zoom link in advance. The series begins this year with a recognition of Black History Month and the role places and people in Fort Wayne and Allen County played in guiding enslaved Blacks to freedom in the decades before the Civil War.
