In the 40 years that Haeng Chong has owned his Vancouver dry cleaning business, he’s never seen demand drop like this.
When COVID-19 first hit, the volume of customers seeking services from Fourth Plain One Hour Dry Cleaning cratered by around 90 percent, he said. People just weren’t going out much anymore and that meant they didn’t really need to maintain their going-out clothes. Laundering those going-out clothes is his livelihood.

Community Foundation for Southwest Washington extends scholarship deadline

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington is extending its scholarship applications for the 2021-22 school year. The deadline to apply is now April 30.
Last year, the foundation gave $766,379 in scholarship money to students, according to the organization. The foundation manages 66 scholarship funds through donors, businesses and organizations across the region.
The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington was established in 1984 and is governed by a board of volunteers to offer services to nonprofits and donors.

Southwest Washington Lifetime of Giving award opens nominations

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington is accepting nominations for its 2021 Lifetime of Giving Award.
An online nomination form is available at cfsww.org/award. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. March 24 and recipients must live in Southwest Washington.
The local grantmaking organization established the award to recognize community members who make significant personal sacrifices throughout their lifetime in order to give more generously to others.
The Community Foundation welcomes all applicants and aims to ensure that honorees reflect the care and compassion of people across the region.
