Community Christmas Dinner set for Friday
The Eagles Club is still looking for volunteers for the Community Christmas dinner. The event will be held despite the COVID-19 pandemic but will contain changes to follow social distancing guidelines. No in-club dining will occur, instead people will go through a walk-through line to receive the meal and leave the club. Masks will be required as well. Deliveries will still be made Christmas Day, and volunteers are still needed for that as well as for helping in the club Christmas Eve. Volunteers will be delivering the meals in a given area, alongside the Havre Jaycees and the Monta.

The United Way’s annual Community Christmas Drive raised over $40,000 earlier month that went back out into the community. The agency was able to help about 600 individuals and families throughout the Riverbend through this year’s effort.
Due to health concerns over COVID, this year they only asked for monetary donations rather than physical items. United Way of SW Illinois Director Maura Wuellner tells the Big Z the agencies and the people they serve are grateful that they are carrying on.

Donations were distributed to organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Alton, Catholic Children’s Home, Centerstone, the Crisis Food Center, Riverbend Family Ministries, Operation Blessing and more.

Akroydon Primary Academy’s festive fundraiser for Overgate Hospice
On the last day of term Akroydon Primary Academy had a fantastic time taking part in The Overgate Reindeer Run.
Tuesday, 22nd December 2020, 11:21 am
Pupils were dressed as reindeer, complete with antlers and red noses, running laps around the school playground to raise much needed funds for Overgate Hospice. Each class participated in turn running throughout their break time.
Using the power of social media, one pupil raised an astonishing £1,010. Being so impressed with her efforts to fundraise, Maisie’s dad posted about the Reindeer Run charity event on his social media accounts, leading to a flood of donations from his network of family and friends.
