Maine poised to surpass 500,000 administered COVID-19 vaccine doses next week

AUGUSTA  The Maine Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) is preparing to place an order for first doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and single doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine, for 34,020 people, to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Operation Warp Speed. This is an increase of 520 doses, not counting doses controlled by the Federal government sent directly to certain pharmacies and clinics. This supply of COVID-19 vaccines will be supplemented by doses the federal government will distribute directly to Walmart/Sam s Club pharmacies, Walgreens pharmacies, Hannaford pharmacies, and selected Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in Maine.

State to offer free rides to COVID-19 vaccine appointments

AUGUSTA The Maine Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday a new, free option for Maine people who need a ride to and from a COVID-19 vaccination appointment. Maine DHHS is partnering with ModivCare, one of the organizations that coordinates rides for MaineCare members, to provide rides for any Maine resident who is unable to drive, lacks reliable transportation or is otherwise unable to travel to their appointment, according to a news release.  ModivCare will in turn partner with Community Action Programs and transportation companies to provide rides. This new option is in addition to the transportation support that DHHS already offers for eligible MaineCare members who face challenges getting to their vaccine appointment.

MaineHousing launches more rent relief as federal aid becomes available

By Staff Maine renters affected by COVID-19 can take advantage of a new rent relief program offered by MaineHousing, funded by the COVID-19 relief act passed by Congress in December. The program will be overseen by the state s housing authority, which has contracted with Maine’s Community Action Programs to administer the relief in all 16 counties to people whose finances have been affected by the pandemic and related shutdowns. The U.S. Treasury Department released new guidance for the program on Feb. 22. The Maine Affordable Housing coalition a month ago said that renters and landlords in Maine were falling farther behind as the Treasury Department finalized program rules for the desperately needed rent relief, which hasn t been available since Dec. 31, when the program was paused.
