A Carmarhtenshire social worker has been removed from the Register because of serious misconduct A SOCIAL worker from Carmarthenshire has been removed from the Register of Social Care Workers after a Social Care Wales hearing found her fitness to practise is currently impaired because of serious misconduct. Sharon Williams was working for Carmarthenshire County Council in December 2018, supporting vulnerable adults with serious mental health issues, when she breached confidentiality rules by naming a vulnerable person in her care on social media. Ms Williams, who was present at the four-day hearing held over Zoom last week, admitted naming the vulnerable person on Facebook. She also admitted using cannabis daily and openly smoking it in Facebook posts.

IN SCOTLAND we have now entered the campaign for the Scottish Parliament elections on May 6. There are many critical issues facing the nation following more than a year since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in the deaths of 150,000 people across Britain.
In total, there have been over 9,000 coronavirus-linked deaths registered in Scotland. So many lives have been lost and others turned upside down by this horrible silent killer.
As the vaccination programme is being rolled out and restrictions are beginning to ease, there is growing light in what has often been a very dark tunnel.
Throughout this period, we have seen workers literally putting their lives on the line from our NHS workers to those providing essential services in local government to those in our energy sector and our supermarkets. Workers have kept our country functioning and running providing some semblance of what was the previous “normal.”
If a Social care Worker was asked what to describe what they do, how would they answer?
An imagined conversation may go like this. Are you a social worker? No. Are you a care assistant? No. Are you a community worker? I may work in the community, but I may not be a community worker. Do you work with children? I can work with a variety of people who may require support in their daily living and achieving their wider life goals. It can include older people, people with disabilities or maybe working with children or teenagers. Do you work on your own? No. I work as part of a team usually. Is your job boring? Absolutely not!
