Providence High School
Mecklenburg County health officials say Providence High School’s junior varsity baseball team has a cluster of COVID-19 cases.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reported 10 student cases and one staff case at the southeast Charlotte school last week, but a spokesperson said early this week that the health department hadn’t labeled it a cluster. That label means two or more cases appear to be connected with school spread, as opposed to cases contracted elsewhere.
Friday’s county report cites five student cases on the Providence baseball team as a cluster.
It also cites four student cases at Community School of Davidson as a cluster. The report says those cases are connected with the Armour Street campus, which houses students in grade 8 and up. Community School of Davidson is a K-12 charter school.

Below are the projections for the 1A softball state playoffs for the 2020-2021 season.
These projections are not official and can change when the official brackets are released by the N.C. High School Athletic Association on Saturday, May 1. However, these projections are made using the protocols adopted by the NCHSAA Board of Directors and the results entered into MaxPreps by the schools. You can read the in-depth breakdown on how the playoff qualifiers will be determined and brackets created by clicking here.
Important note: We will not be able to project an actual bracket for the playoffs this year, only the qualifiers, the wildcard spots, the seeding tiers, and the bubble. Since the bracket will be built based on a random draw, it is impossible for us to project the eventual bracket with any level of certainty.

Considering the entire boys basketball team was at the same time preparing for football season due to the unique circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, itâs a wonder the Redhawks were able to place third in the Southern Carolina Conference and make the 3A basketball playoffs.
In doing so, the Redhawksâ basketball season ended just three days before the first football game â with no opportunity to postpone. So obviously the Redhawks will need time to get up to speed in football.
Monroeâs football team drew defending 3A state champion Charlotte Catholic in the opener and got blanked (27-0), and it put pressure on them to find a way in Week 2.
