Sign Up New protection is needed to help self-employed people across the north and north-east recover from the Covid-19 crisis, according to a leading business group. Figures analysed by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) show more than 31,000 people work for themselves across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The city and shire are ranked fifth and eighth in Scotland in terms of the number of self-employed. Meanwhile, the number of people who work for themselves across the Highlands and Islands has tumbled in recent years. Between 2016 and 2019 the number of self-employed in the north fell by 13.8% to 16,200 from 18,800.
