The second shipment of 8,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine was delayed from its original delivery date of March 3, and even though it’s now due in the territory on March 17, Mr. Malone explained, the ministry decided to err on the side of caution in order to avoid wasting doses and risking elderly patients missing the second dose, which has been shown to have an effectiveness rate of up to 82 percent

The Ministry of Health and Social Development announced that 2,050 vaccines had been administered as of Feb. 24.Health care workers have been vaccinating 500 patients a day this week, Dr. Georges said in an online discussion hosted by the BVI Tourist Board.
