The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has announced â¬75 million for 24 landmark regeneration projects in rural communities across the country.
Two projects in Tipperary secured funding. â¬2.9 million for the Thurles Market Quarter: This project will renovate a 19th Century former agriculture building in the car park of Thurles Town park, to create the new Thurles Market Quarter. The new Quarter will include a designated market space, a multi-functional events space and a Student’s Union and Café. The project has an overall estimated cost of â¬3,215,000. The project is a partnership development with Mary Immaculate College and Tipperary County Council. Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys has announced the details of the allocation of the €70 million transitional LEADER programme for the period 2021-2022.
The allocation is as follows:
€65 million is being allocated to support locally-led rural development projects across the 29 local action groups;
€3 million is being allocated to support the LEADER co-operation measure which encourages rural areas to work together on collaborative projects;
€2 million will be allocated to prepare for the next LEADER programme.
Speaking today (Friday, April 9), Minister Humphreys drew attention to the new rural development policy ‘Our Rural Future‘.
“As I said at the launch, government alone does not have all the answers and there can be no one-size-fits all approach,” the minister said.
