Stimulus funding set to provide boost for basketball in Baw Baw

With participation rates double the Victorian rate at 8.15 per cent, basketball is Baw Baw Shire’s most popular sport with 3951 Basketball Victoria registered participants and 1844 members registered with the Warragul and District Amateur Basketball Association. The project is estimated to create up to 54 jobs for the region with construction expected to take between 19 and 24 months. When complete, the project will further enhance the levels of participation in stadium sports in the Shire, allow local clubs to expand and provide a regional level facility that can cater for more tournaments and events.

Date Time Nature and Water Play Park funding secured Horsham Rural City Council has secured $2.1 million from Sport and Recreation Victoria to develop the region’s first Nature and Water Play Park. Located at Horsham’s riverfront precinct, the park will be free and accessible for all ages and capabilities, all year round. The concept is part of the broader City to River Masterplan to activate the riverfront. Mayor Robyn Gulline said attracting significant funding for local projects was a major win for the Wimmera. Sport and Recreation Victoria’s contribution came via its Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program while $350,000 has been allocated from the Commonwealth Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Phoenix Set To Rise With Work Starting On New Pavilion

VIC Premier Melton Phoenix Football Club players will soon have modern female friendly facilities with work starting on a new pavilion at MacPherson Park, thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government. Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today joined Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas as construction of the new pavilion officially commenced. The new facilities have been made possible with $1.18 million from the first round of the government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program . MacPherson Park is the regional sporting hub in the City of Melton, and Melton Phoenix has been an integral part of the local sporting community for more than 50 years.
