Small scale traders in Lilongwe have asked the government to ease the tough covid-19 preventive measures now that the infection rate is at around 15 per cent down from 30 per cent when the measures were put.

Some of the business owners said due to the restrictions, most of their businesses are failing to stay afloat.
Among the restrictions is a limit in trading hours for markets where they are meant to close at 5pm.
They said that their profits have gone down by 50 % due to such restrictions.
In a bid to strengthen fight against Covid -19 pandemic, Tobacco Commission (TC) on Saturday donated K10 million materials towards fighting the pandemic.

Speaking during a handover ceremony which took place at TC Headquarters in Capital City Lilongwe, the newly appointed TC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Chidanti Malunga said the donation is a response to President Lazarus Chakwera appeal to help him fight the pandemic in whatever way.
He said: “We are in state of national disaster and every time the State President goes on TV, he appeals for donation that is why we thought of buying the equipment and donate towards the fight,”

The Society of Medical Doctors (SMD) is worried with continued mistreatment of health care workers by some guardians of Covid-19 patients.
SMD president Victor Mgonjetsi Mithi has dismissed rumours orchestrating abuse of health workers which include allegations that some health workers are mistreating patients and removing genitals of those dying of Covid 19.
Mithi says it is important that Malawians work together with health workers in the war against the Coronavirus pandemic.
