5th Ward aldermanic candidate Carolyn Murray stood in front of a polling place this morning, passing out literature and asking voters for their support.
But there were not a lot of voters showing up, at least not in the first few hours of Election Day.
At 9 a.m., Murray, who had been outside the Ebenezer-Primm Towers at Emerson and Maple for three hours, said turnout so far had been “very low.”

Citing her husband’s health and unfinished business in her current position, Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough said Tuesday that she will not run for Illinois secretary of state and will instead throw her support behind Ald. Pat Dowell.
“I’m not running [for Secretary of State]. I’m going to run for re-election,” Yarbrough told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I haven’t finished the work I’ve started with in the office.”
Yarbrough said she is also concerned about her husband’s health.
Henderson Yarbrough was diagnosed with prostate cancer and, while it was caught early, the county clerk said running for a statewide position, which would require traveling around Illinois to shore up support, “isn’t something I’m interested in doing while he’s in his therapy.”
The boy was at Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
A dispute over one car not letting another car into a lane of traffic about 11 a.m. on northbound Lake Shore Drive just south of Soldier Field apparently led to the shooting, Chicago Police Cmdr. Jake Alderden said at a news conference this afternoon.
Both cars continued north and shooting began on Lake Shore Drive just west of the Shedd Aquarium. Bullet casings were recovered over a two-block stretch as the cars proceeded north, he said.
The vehicle the 2-year-old was in crashed at Monroe Street and Lake Shore Drive, near the Chicago Yacht Club and Maggie Daley Park.

Former state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is taking an early lead in fundraising in his bid to succeed Jesse White as Illinois secretary of state, adding $1.4 million to his campaign war chest less than a year before voters will decide which Democrat they want to move on to the general election.
“Without the ability to hold in-person events or engage in retail politics, our campaign adapted early on to embrace non-traditional strategies and digital platforms to navigate and overcome these challenges,” Giannoulias said in a statement. “Our ability to successfully pivot has paid off as we’ve exceeded our goals and put the campaign in a strong position moving forward.”
