CHICAGO (WLS) A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a retired Chicago firefighter earlier this month in Morgan Park.
The boy faces first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery charges, according to the Cook County State s Attorney s Office and Chicago police. He was taken into custody Wednesday at his Chicago Heights home.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said a second person, an adult, is in custody in connection with the shooting and police are seeking two other adults. Anytime we have a juvenile suspect it is always shocking and takes aback to what we could have done to redirect this young person s life, Supt. Brown said.

CHICAGO A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in a February shooting at a crowded Chicago convenience store in which a young nursing student was killed and four other people were wounded, police said.
The teen, whose name was not released because he is charged as a juvenile, faces one count of first-degree murder and four felony counts of attempted murder in the attack, officials said Wednesday.
Investigators said after the Feb. 25 shooting that surveillance video showed three people approach Ali’s Minimart on Chicago’s South Side, look inside the crowded store and open fire. About 20 shots were fired into the building, police said.

The man charged with murdering a retired Evanston attorney once tried to trade his car for a motel room, and then asked the motel clerk “if they were still in the United States,” according to police documents in Utah.
Those allegations are among the details in a Richfield, Utah, police report about 34-year old Cory Gilmartin. Gilmartin was picked up on a DUI charge in Richfield on March 19.
Gilmartin now faces first degree murder charges in connection with the beating death of 71-year old Daniel Murray in the lobby of Murray’s apartment building at Chicago Avenue and Main Street in Evanston last month.
ROCKFORD Winnebago County is in the midst of a gun-crime pandemic, says new Winnebago County State s Attorney J Hanley.
Prosecuting gun cases, gang-related violence, domestic violence and sex crimes will be the top priorities of his office.
Hanley identified those four priorities initially to his staff and then again Tuesday when he held a news conference to introduce to the public members of his new executive team.
Hanley, who took office Dec. 1, said he inherited a staffing shortage and a huge caseload and felt it was important to identify to his staff and to the public the priorities of his office.
