Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot addressed the city on Thursday after its police review board released the video of the officer-involved fatal shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo and made an appeal for calm. Even as our understanding of this incident continues to evolve, this remains a complicated and nuanced story, she said, according to the Chicago Tribune. We all must proceed with deep empathy and calm and importantly, peace.
She held an emotional press conference at City Hall and said, Simply put, we failed Adam.
The shooting occurred in the city’s West Side on March 29 at around 2:30 a.m. and Toledo died from a gunshot wound to his chest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The city is bracing for the possibility of unrest because the video showed the teen with his hands raised before the shooting.

The Chicago police officer who fatally shot 13-year-old Adam Toledo last month in the city’s West Side has been placed on administrative leave, according to reports.
The officer has been identified as Eric E. Stillman, according to police informaton released Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Stillman, 34, has served on the city s force since 2015, FOX 32 of Chicago reported. The police department did not immediately respond to an after-hours email from Fox News seeking more information.
Chicago s police review board on Thursday released the body cam video of the fatal shooting, which prompted the city to brace for protests.

Another shooting of an unarmed person by police officers will likely see parts of Chicago burn over the next few days. But to get to where we are in the aftermath of this very disturbing shooting, we have to start at the beginning.
Adam Toledo, a 13-year-old Latino seventh grader, was shot dead in an alley by a Chicago police officer on March 29 following a foot chase. His mother had reported Adam missing. When officers came knocking on her door two days later, it was to identify his body. It wasn’t until after that that she was informed he was killed by police.
