LA GRANGE, IL La Grange s percentage increase in coronavirus cases was up slightly in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 2,201 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 36 from a week before, or a 1.7 percent increase. That was slightly up from the previous week s 1.5 percent hike.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner s Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL Western Springs last week saw the lowest weekly number of new coronavirus cases since February, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,200 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 10 from a week earlier, or a 0.8 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 1.2 percent increase.
The number of Western Springs virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner s Office. That s a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.
But the 75-year-old hairbrush salesman was eager to get vaccinated as travel was his career and his life. He received his first shot of the Pfizer vaccine in January and his second in early February, his family said.
By March, he had decided to have dinner at a restaurant with some friends, one of whom tested positive for coronavirus in the days following the meal.
Sporn started experiencing a fever and his doctor urged him to go to the emergency room and get tested. There, he found out he was positive for coronavirus.
Coronavirus cases among fully vaccinated people are called breakthrough cases and while they are possible, they are also rare.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,190 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 13 from a week earlier, or a 1.1 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 2.9 percent increase.
The number of Western Springs virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner s Office.
