SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision in Sumter that happened Thursday night involving multiple cars.
According to the report, the accident happened around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 on US Hwy 378 near 76 over pass.
A pick up truck crossed the center concrete median, striking multiple vehicles, according to the report.
Vernon Myers, 58, the driver of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed Tuesday morning at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The Next of kin has been notified.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and The Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has identified the victim from a fatal accident that occurred on Monday night around 8:45 p.m. The coroner says 43-year-old Jermaine Williams was pronounced dead on Tuesday at Prisma Health Tuomey, as a result of a vehicle versus bicycle accident that happened on Jackson Street at Miller Road.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A 43-year-old man has died after being hit by a vehicle while standing near his bike in Sumter.
The collision happened Monday at about 8:45 p.m. on Jackson Street at Miller Road, according to the Sumter County Coronerâs Office.
According to the Sumter Police Department, the man was headed west on Jackson Street while a 2003 GMC Yukon was headed west on Miller Road when the vehicle hit the man.
