COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says a Lynchburg man is facing several charges after an incident in the parking lot of a motel on the 10000 block of Lynches River Road.
On March 27, authorities say 26-year-old Eric Demond Dickey forced his way into a woman’s motel room with the intent to harm her, but she was able to get away uninjured. Deputies say Dickey left the motel room and fired a handgun twice at a man in the parking lot, but he was not injured. According to investigators, one of the bullets entered the motel room of a customer and struck a man. Deputies say the victim was airlifted to Florence Hospital where he received treatment for life-threatening injuries.

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A Sumter woman is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second degree officials say.
Brittany Leona Busques, 23, of Sumter is accused of having sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old male on or between December 1, 2020, and December 25, 2020, according to arrest warrants.
According to officials, Busques was transported to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on March 26.
“This was very disturbing to learn about,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “We are working to get more information about this incident to ensure Busques is prosecuted to the full extent of the law for her actions.”

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A Sumter father has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his 11-week-old baby.
Dashun Malik Canty, 23, has been charged with homicide by child abuse and contempt of family court in an unrelated matter.
Officials say the mother of the newborn told them she left the baby with Canty while she went to an appointment on Dec. 13.
She said when she returned to her room at a Broad Street hotel the baby was alive but unresponsive.
