SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - The Sumter Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a racially motivated incident that occurred in a grocery store last week.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on April 9.
Officials say 27-year-old John Walter Miles was shopping with his girlfriend when he became irate because the clerk refused to sell them alcohol.
According to police reports, Miles refused to leave the store and called an employee a racial slur. He was eventually escorted from the premises.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been arrested and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm, following an incident that took place April 13. Authorities say 22-year-old Nyjuan Sutton presented a firearm to the female victim and threatened to hit her in the face with it.

Deputies say Sutton was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Sumter Police Department says man has been charged following an incident where he used profanity and racial slurs at a Food Lion. Police say the incident, which was captured on video and is circulating on social media, took place after 10:15 p.m. on April 9 at the Food Lion on Wedgefield Road.
According to authorities, 27-year-old John Walter Miles was shopping with his girlfriend when he became irate after the cashier refused to sell them alcohol. According to police reports, a witness states that Miles used racial slurs directed at the employees.

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - Two Sumter County men are charged with murder and two others with accessory in connection to a fatal shooting Friday on Broad Street, officials say.
According to officials with the Sumter Police Department, Alki Williams, 27, of Mayesville was driving just after 5 p.m. on Broad Street, when a white vehicle drove up beside him between Milton and Morgan avenues and opened fire at Williams.
