Several people were injured at a campground on a Navy base in southern Georgia and a person was killed by a falling tree in northern Florida as Tropical Storm Elsa trekked across land Wednesday. There are reports of multiple injuries and damage to multiple recreational vehicles in the base RV park, and also reports of damage to buildings and structures on the installation, a statement from officials at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay said. Many of the injured were transported to local medical facilities for treatment.

Officials say Tropical Storm Elsa could make landfall tomorrow at near hurricane strength. There are many steps you can take to protect yourself, your loved ones and your property.
Here are just some things you will want to have on hand as the storm approaches:
First aid kit
Non-perishable or canned foods
Rain gear and sturdy shoes
You should also stay inside and make sure your windows and doors and secure. Keep an eye on emergency weather alerts and forecasts for the latest information on the path of the storm. The Red Cross emergency app is also helpful.
As Elsa churned over the Florida Keys and headed up the state s Gulf Coast Tuesday, tourist sites, schools, government offices, and airports shuttered and shelters opened in numerous Florida counties, while a state of emergency was issued in Georgia ahead of the storm s possible consequences there.

Elsa became a hurricane on Tuesday night. Many counties in the Tampa Bay region established or planned to open shelters. No mandatory evacuation orders were issued, but some people were encouraged to evacuate.
