KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 A total of 54 federal and state lawmakers from Sabah and Sarawak have come together in a bipartisan effort to ask the federal government to discontinue its appeal against the High Court’s quashing of a decades-old government ban on the word “Allah” in Christian publications.
Its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (

They will do an in-depth study of these issues and problems and come up with proposals to rectify the shortcomings to bring about a better life for the urban people, he said when launching the southern zone task force at party headquarters here on Tuesday (March 9).
Wong said similar urban task forces would be set up in Sibu for the central region and Miri for the northern region, while another task force would be formed to address rural issues.

Kota Kinabalu: Lawyers doubt the effectiveness of a pre-signed letter by Sebatik Assemblyman Hassan Gani Amir
(pic), which states that he would deem to have vacated his seat after he left Parti Warisan Sabah.
The lawyers said the letter would likely not be enforceable by court due to freedom of association laws in Malaysia, and that the State Assembly can choose to disregard the letter.
“As we know, any contract which prevents switching parties is unenforceable. Any promise he made to resign cannot be enforced against him because it violates Article 10, which provides for freedom of association – it is an unenforceable promise,” said lawyer New Sin Yew.

KUCHING, Feb 12: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg participated in the virtual Chinese New Year Open House organised by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) today.
In his short speech broadcast on SUPP’s official Facebook page, Abang Johari called on the Chinese community to work together to maintain unity in the efforts to weather the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also asked them to continue to work with the state government to plan good policies to improve Sarawak’s economy as a whole.
KUCHING: Sarawak PKR has ruled out the possibility of cooperating with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) in the coming state election following the latter s intention to contest all 82 seats.
Its chairman Larry Sng said PSB s hardline position left no room for Sarawak PKR to consider working with it. We will not wait for month s end to pursue seat negotiations. Effectively, any notion of an alliance between Keadilan and PSB is now dead. This is unlikely to change since both parties have been discussing for months, without any resolution, he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Feb 2).
As such, he said, Sarawak PKR would contest 47 state seats alongside its coalition partners DAP and Amanah.
