Ooredoo Kuwait and Nokia boost home internet with 5G FWA
13h | Capacity team Ooredoo Kuwait has teamed up with Nokia to boost its home internet service with 5G Fixed Wireless Access.
Nokia’s self-installable 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateway incorporates Wifi 6 with self-optimising mesh technology and advanced antenna designs for better coverage.
An early pioneer of FWA, Ooredoo is now offering the Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway as a premium internet device for residential and business customers. Ooredoo Kuwait is using FWA to extend the reach of its fiber network to premises not easily connected with direct fiber lines.
Essa Haider, director of network planning and design for Ooredoo Kuwait, said: “5G Fixed Wireless Access is essential for Kuwait’s economic growth and diversification, and we’re delighted to be partnering with Nokia for this.”

MILAN, May 6 (Reuters) - Italy wants to speed up the roll-out of all-fibre ultrafast broadband coverage to boost productivity and close a gap with major European rivals.
Italy’s new government under Prime Minister Mario Draghi has put digitisation at the centre of its agenda. It plans to spend more than 8 billion euros ($9.6 billion) of EU funds on broadband, 5G and satellite technologies and wants superfast connections of 1 gigabyte available for all Italians by 2026.
Rome has yet to decide if it plans to pursue a long-standing project of a single broadband network or find alternative ways to boost connectivity, with several ministers holding different positions on the issue.

Fixed wireless access (FWA) gets more interesting by the day… Network operator
UScellular, in partnership with tech vendors
Qualcomm,
Ericsson and
Inseego, have conducted some very interesting FWA tests using mmWave technology on UScellular’s commercial network, and managed “sustained” average downlink speeds of 1 Gbit/s at a range of 7km with a clear line of sight, and “sustained” average downlink speeds of 730 Mbit/s at a distance of 1.75km with no line of sight. For the full technical details, see this announcement.
Nokia has agreed a deal to supply 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) equipment to Ooredoo Kuwait for the operator’s customer premises. A provider of FWA, Oored
