Will new minor league hurt Watertown Rapids?
New wood bat league formed By Rob Krone | December 22, 2020 at 7:01 AM EST - Updated December 22 at 7:04 AM
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The landscape of minor league baseball has changed over the past few months and that change could have a direct impact on both the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and the Watertown Rapids
The Watertown Rapids and the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will have some competition beginning in 2021 with Major League Baseball creating the wood bat MLB Draft League, awarding teams to areas that lost MLB affiliates when minor league baseball teams were downsized from 160 teams to 120 a few months back.

The Newark Pilots open their sixth season of play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball league on June 3rd as the Geneva Red Wings come to town. Geneva will be playing its inaugural season in the PGCBL.Gates open at 6:05 pm with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm at Colburn Park in Newark. A fireworks celebration will take place postgame.
Renovations to the park include new bleacher seating and new picnic tables to accommodate for a growing fan base. The Pilots have received growing support from Newark and the surrounding communities. “We are excited to have the Pilots back for another summer,” said Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor. “We have a beautiful ballpark, with a professional level field. We hope that the new bleachers add to the fan experience!”
