Rescued man in intensive care after being dragged from rip

Premium Content Subscriber only A 28-year-old man who was pulled from the water at an unpatrolled Sunshine Coast beach at the weekend is in intensive care. Lifesavers and lifeguards from Mooloolaba and Kawana rescued the man near Point Cartwright on Sunday after several people, in their 20s, were reported to be drifting about 50m offshore from beach access 200 towards beach access 201. A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said lifeguards from Mooloolaba had performed CPR on one of the swimmers until paramedics arrived. The 28-year-old was rushed from Pacific Boulevard at Buddina to Sunshine Coast University Hospital about 4.20pm. A Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokesman on Monday said the man was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Desperate efforts to save man after group rescued from rip

Premium Content Subscriber only Efforts to revive a man were ongoing as paramedics rushed him to hospital from the scene of an ocean rescue at an unpatrolled Sunshine Coast beach. Emergency services were called to Pacific Boulevard at Buddina at 3.18pm on Sunday after receiving reports of a group of up to five people had been caught in a rip. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said they had received reports several people were drifting from beach access 200 towards beach access 201. They were about 50m offshore, the spokesman said. He said the group were all adults in their 20s. He said surfers and bodyboarders had helped to bring them to shore where CPR was performed on a 28-year-old man.

Teen suffers suspected spinal injury in wave dive

Premium Content Subscriber only UPDATE: A teen is set to be flown to a Brisbane hospital after an incident at a Caloundra beach. A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were treating the teenage boy for suspected spinal injuries after a reported diving incident. It’s understood the teen is currently being taken to meet with the rescue helicopter. A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said it was understood the boy hit a sandbar after diving under a wave. An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue spokeswoman said a crew was waiting to meet the boy at Caloundra Airport. “Our doctor and paramedic are with Queensland Ambulance Service officers at the moment.”
