Bally's has a hit on its hands with 'Motown Forever' | Arts and Entertainment News

SCOTT CRONICK When Producer Allen Valentine was originally putting together a concept for a Motown production show, his biggest issue was that he had too many songs that he wanted to include. It turns out Valentine’s dilemma has proven a blessing as Motown Forever, the latest incarnation of Valentine’s stunning Motown tribute at Bally’s Atlantic City, digs deeper into the producer’s Motown music vault, offering audiences a fun, fresh show while holding onto the audience favorites that never grow tired. One of the best parts of Motown Forever is that it’s the first time Bally’s has hosted live entertainment in 13 years. Yes, you read that right: 13 years! And the new owners — Bally’s Corporation, formerly Twin River Worldwide Holdings — is showing it is committed to turning the property around, meaning a complete experience that will include regular entertainment.

Report: Four Tops musical expected to open on Broadway in early 2022

The Four Tops in 1985; Aaron Rapoport/Corbis/Getty Images Sole surviving original Duke Fakir is collaborating with Broadway producer Paul Lambert on a new musical focusing on the Motown legends, an “insider” source tells Page Six. Fakir and Lambert are hoping that the show, which will be named I’ll Be There! after The Four Tops’ chart-topping 1966 hit “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” will be ready to premiere in early 2022. “They just did casting calls in L.A. and are now doing rehearsals,” the insider tells Page Six. The production is reportedly planning to launch with a brief run in Detroit, which would make it the first Motown-themed musical to debut in the Motor City.  A source tells Page Six that plans also are in the works for the musical to have a run at London’s West End.

Sparks Ignited When Motown Met Bob Dylan on Four Tops' Compassion Anthem 'Reach Out I'll Be There'

Skip to main content Currently Reading Sparks Ignited When Motown Met Bob Dylan on Four Tops' Compassion Anthem 'Reach Out I'll Be There' Jeremy Helligar, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail What the world needs now is love, sweet love — and compassion. In 1966, Four Tops, Motown’s second-greatest male vocal group, after the Temptations, delivered both with their signature hit, “Reach Out I’ll Be There.” As the U.S. was suffering from the heightened trauma of a deadly global pandemic and racial reckoning last year (conditions that continue to plague the country in 2021), then-Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden chose it for his campaign soundtrack. If you pay attention to the lyrics, it’s easy to see why he found it such an appropriate song for the times.
