The owner told police that he secured his building along George Street around 4pm yesterday.
When he returned this morning, he observed that the place was in a mess.
He conducted further checks and saw that one of the doors had been pried open.
He took a tally of his inventory, and observed several boxes of meat, including chicken, ox-tail, saltfish, and smoke herring, among others, were missing.
Additionally, some cutting tools also could not be accounted for.
The police were notified and officers from the Besson Street police station responded.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the robbery of a 30-year-old man on his way home.
He was a master craftsman working in the press room at Express House, Port of Spain.

Police suspect that Holder was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

POLICE shot and killed two young men in Dibe, Long Circular, yesterday, taking the number of people killed by police this year so far to 56.
In this latest incident, police said the men fired at them and they fired back. Relatives of one of the men however claimed otherwise.
Killed were Jeremiah Ellis, 18, and Shane Moses, 20.
Police said around 5 a.m. yesterday officers from the St James Police Station and Western Division Task Force went to Tractor Hill, off Dibe, Long Circular, where they attempted to search a house in the area, but when they got close to the dwelling two men walked out and opened fire on them.
Cops to step up traffic exercises

DRIVERS are being warned to obey the law and take all precautions necessary to ensure their safety and the safety of their passengers, as the police intend to increase traffic exercises to prevent road fatalities.
A police media release on Tuesday reported the decision to increase road policing activities came after three fatal accidents were recorded within a six-hour period on Monday.
In the first incident, at around 2 pm, Ravesh Jhinkoo, 33, lost control of his SUV on the Toco Main Road and crashed into a concrete drain and embankment.
Less than two hours later, at around 3.30 pm, fireman Satesh Ramkissoon, 37, died after being knocked down by a truck while standing along the Naparima Mayaro Road, Bristol Village.
