Exploitation of vulnerable people â modern slavery â is happening in Fenland

The fight to end criminal exploitation and trafficking of vulnerable workers in Fenland will feature in an important online anti-slavery conference hosted by Wisbech and Fenland Museum later this month.
The conference will be formally opened by the UK s Independent Anti-slavery Commissioner Dame Sara Thornton.
Local speakers include DS Chris Acourt from Cambridgeshire s multi-agency taskforce Operation Pheasant and Anita Grodkiewicz MBE of Wisbech s Rosmini Centre, which partnered Fenland District Council in an 18-month Government-funded project researching modern-day slavery in the area.

Major contest planned for Liverpool’s museums quarter
National Museums Liverpool (NML) has announced it will open an international placemaking competition in March
The competition – led by Colander Associates – will select a multidisciplinary team with a ‘commitment to diversity’ to rethink prominent public spaces throughout Liverpool’s maritime quarter, which is at the heart of the city’s Unesco World Heritage Site.

Alongside the placemaking contest, NML has also announced its intention to separately expand the International Slavery Museum – currently co-located with the Merseyside Maritime Museum – to include the neighbouring Dock Traffic Office, which has been renamed the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building.

Not sure what Akkad is talking about. The slavery museum has been in the city for 15 years. Its relocation has been on the cards for a long time. Long before the whole George Floyd business.

The more I read this article the more confused I get. When did Dr. Martin Luther King Junior live or work in Liverpool? Did Royal Albert build that dock (I mean pay for it, not build it) or did somebody important decide to name it after him, to please him? And who is Royal Albert anyway? Was he a Lancashire lad? Unusual choice of PLACE names, don’t you think?
