Camp for Young Radio Amateurs in the Americas is a Go for this Summer 04/21/2021 The long-awaited inaugural Youth on the Air ( YOTA) camp for young amateur radio operators in North, Central, and South America will go forward this July. The camp, set for July 11 – 16, will take place at the National Voice of America Museum of Broadcasting in West Chester Township, Ohio, north of Cincinnati. The camp had to be postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The camp will comply with COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines as set by the state of Ohio and the Centers for Disease Control, such as requiring the use of masks, distancing, and sanitizing stations,” said Camp Director Neil Rapp, WB9VPG. “Attendees may be asked to take a COVID-19 test and/or self-quarantine prior to arrival, depending on the guidelines in place in July. ITU Early last year, when the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) first pushed much of the world into lockdown, one traditional – some might even say old-fashioned – hobby experienced a spectacular revival. Amateur radio lets people interact socially, intensively, without ever meeting in person. In those early days and weeks of the pandemic, radio amateurs reached out to each other spontaneously via the airwaves at the local, national, and global levels. These days, local clubs in Europe and other regions are meeting on-the-air, more frequently than they have in decades, providing familiar, friendly voices, as well as regular check-ins on those, such as the elderly, who may be confined at home.

RAC Announces “Get on the Air on World Amateur Radio Day” Event 04/13/2021 RAC) has announced the “ Get on the Air on World Amateur Radio Day” operating event. World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) is observed each year on April 18, to celebrate the formation of the International Amateur Radio Union ( IARU) on April 18, 1925. The object of the event is to contact as many RAC-suffix stations as possible. RAC official stations will operate across Canada from 0000 until 2359 UTC on April 18. The RAC official station call signs are VA2RAC, VA3RAC, VE1RAC, VE4RAC, VE5RAC, VE6RAC, VE7RAC, VE8RAC, VE9RAC, VO1RAC, VO2RAC, VY0RAC, VY1RAC, and VY2RAC.
