The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education, which met with Senator Engineer Rukhsana Zuberi, cleared the ‘Protection against Harassment of Students in Educational Institutions Bill 2020’. The mover of the bill, Senator Javed Abbasi, informed the meeting that the bill seeks to ensure provision of education in a safe environment in educational institutions. At present, there is no criminal law to register such cases which causes unnecessary delay in proceedings, he added.

Malaysia s king declares state of emergency to curb spread of COVID-19 : The Tribune India

2286 Kuala Lumpur, January 12 Malaysia’s King Al-Sultan Abdullah declared a state of emergency across the country on Tuesday to curb the spread of COVID-19, after consenting to a request from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is facing a leadership challenge. An emergency would give the Prime Minister and his cabinet extraordinary powers, including allowing the government to introduce laws without the approval of the Parliament. It was not immediately clear how the emergency would impact day-to-day activities but the constitution allows for the Parliament to be suspended during that period which could for now put an end to political uncertainties faced by Muhyiddin.
