Sambo and Wushu apply for IWGA membership 02/17/21
The Fédération Internationale de Sambo (FIAS) and the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) are applying for membership of the International World Games Association. The decision on whether to approve either of the two martial arts’ applications will be made by the representatives of the 37 current IWGA member federations during the Annual General Meeting on 27 May 2021.
At its February meeting, the IWGA Board postponed a decision on whether to hold this year’s AGM remotely, as happened last year. This was announced by IWGA President José Perurena after the virtual meeting. The Executive Committee wants to wait and see whether the SportAccord Convention planned for May in Ekaterinburg, Russia, can take place as a physical event . This should be clarified in the near future, according to information received by José Perurena.

It s official. Malaysia s Nicol David has been named the greatest athlete of all time.
According to an online poll run by The International World Games Association (IWGA), the legendary squash player ran away with the title after scoring 318,943 votes – beating out runners-up Irish tug-of-war athlete James Kehoe and and Ukrainian powerlifter Larysa Solovlova in second and third respectively. Nicol David is an inspirational athlete, and a fine role model for younger athletes. The race was incredible, and it was good to see how athletes got support not only from their own sport, but also from their country and the highest sports authorities there, said IWGA President José Perurena. Sports really unite people in a special way. This vote was a celebration of that.”
