Pohnpei In late February, United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced a new International Anticorruption Champions Award. One of the twelve awardees is Ms. Sophia Pretrick, Investigative Advisor for the Compliance Investigation Division of the Pohnpei State Auditor of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Ms. Pretrick almost single-handedly raised the profile of anticorruption activities in the FSM through her unique blend of government intervention and grassroots advocacy. One of the recent highlights of her years of service was a partnership between her office and the Pohnpei office of Youth-4-Change, a local NGO that addresses health, teen pregnancy, and anticorruption concerns. Youth-4-Change wrote and performed a pop song that has been played on local radio for over 18 months and reached thousands of youth with its message about the role each person plays in fighting corruption.

Matthew Caruana Galizia, an award-winning investigative journalist, was nominated by Gwendolyn “Wendy” Green, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires.
The U.S. Embassy selected Caruana Galizia because of his work exposing financial crime, money laundering, and tax evasion.
“This award honours individuals who have worked tirelessly, often in the face of adversity, to defend transparency, combat corruption, and ensure accountability in their own countries,” Green said.

Senate honors Pasig Mayor for International Anticorruption award
The Senate today adopted a resolution commending and honoring Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis Nubla Sotto, popularly known as Vico Sotto, for being recognized by the U.S. State Department as one of the 12 International Anticorruption Champions.
Senate Resolution No. 657, introduced by Sen. Manuel Lito Lapid, was adopted in consideration with Senate Resolution No. 660, authored by Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Panfilo Lacson.
In his sponsorship speech, Lacson said Mayor Sotto has set the bar high in public service. He said Pasigueños are fortunate to have a leader who embodies wise thoughts, prudent actions and selfless intentions to advance the well-being of his constituents.
