Eumir Marcial had an auspicious start to his professional boxing career with a four-round domination of Andrew Whitfield at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
With legendary trainer Freddie Roach manning his corner, Marcial dominated the four-round fight as all three judges scored it as a shutout, 40 to 36. Marcial threw 310 punches landing 120, while his opponent only landed 46 in the match.
It was apparent that the Filipino fighter missed being on top of the ring as Marcial started the bout by loading up on his vaunted left hand with straights to Whitfield s head and mid-section. The Filipino landed 11 clean punches in the first minute of the fight to establish an early rhythm.

Weâve all had to roll with some punches this year, so itâs only fitting that 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of Paul âThe Ultimateâ Vaden becoming the only San Diegan to ever win a professional boxing title.
Growing up, Vaden honed his skills in Southeast San Diegoâs Jackie Robinson YMCA, in a boxing ring donated by legendary pugilist Archie Moore. He couldâve easily made the 1992 Olympics, but eschewed them to go pro. When he scored a technical knockout against heavily favored Vincent Pettway in the 12th round of a 1995 title fight, he won the International Boxing Federationâs light middleweight championship.
