DC Circ. Orders Co. To Rehire Workers, NLRB To Explain Itself

Circuit on Tuesday said a concrete company must rehire workers allegedly ousted due to their pro-union activity, but ordered the National Labor Relations Board to review its decision that the company s closure of one of its facilities was an illegal attempt to snuff out organizing.

WASHINGTON, May 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Teamsters Union applauded the announcement of the first labor complaint filed under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Rapid Response Mechanism. The complaint, filed by the AFL-CIO, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and the Sindicato Nacional Independiente de Trabajardores de Industrias y de Servicios Movimiento (SNITIS), addresses labor violations at Tridonex, an auto parts factory based in Mexico.
The complaint will be the first test of the labor reforms included in the USMCA. Workers at Tridonex have reportedly been denied their right to organize for more than two years and have faced harassment and termination for their union activity.

Clarke’s entire working life has been dedicated to this commitment, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten wrote in a letter dated April 28.

Clarke also received support in a letter from the National Education Association, which is the largest union representing teachers and school workers with more than 3 million members.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents roughly 1.4 million workers, also backed Clarke for the job, citing her experience leading the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and serving as head of the civil rights bureau of the New York state attorney general’s office.
