SAF Could Make up 5 5% of 2030 EU Jet Fuel Demand with Targeted Support, Estimates ICCT Feedstock Study – Advanced BioFuels USA

(GreenAir Online) Analysis by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) shows there are sufficient sources of sustainable feedstock to support the production of 3.4 million tonnes (Mt) of advanced sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) annually in the EU by 2030, around 5.5% of projected EU jet fuel demand. Waste oils is the most technically mature SAF pathway at present and could produce up to 2% of the share although this resource is highly constrained and largely consumed by the road sector. Moving beyond 2% of SAF deployment will require targeted support by the EU for more conversion pathways such as lignocellulosic biofuels and electrofuels, which come with more challenging economics and uncertain production timelines, says ICCT. Current volumes of SAF are below 0.1% of EU annual jet fuel consumption. The European aviation industry’s recent Destination 2050 roadmap estimates SAF deployment of 3 Mt in 2030, rising to 32 Mt – equal to 83% of total jet kerosene cons

Cut to incentive scheme for some electric, hybrid cars

Cut to incentive scheme for some electric, hybrid cars Updated / Friday, 2 Apr 2021 09:43 Ireland s electric car infrastructure is improving, and more cars are being sold, but the Government s aim of having 1m on the roads by 2030 seem unlikely Business Journalist The Department of Transport is to cut the grants available to some electric cars - capping the price of vehicles that qualify, and reducing the incentive for plug-in hybrids. At the moment full electric cars and plug-in hybrids can qualify for grants of up to €5,000 from the Sustainable Energy Association of Ireland. However, from 1 July, the maximum grant available to plug-in hybrids will be reduced to €2,500.

Study highlights benefits of SMRs to Canadian industries : New Nuclear

01 April 2021 Share Small modular reactors (SMRs) are well-equipped to drive cost-efficient decarbonisation of Canada s heavy industries, research conducted by EnviroEconomics and Navius Research on behalf of the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) has concluded. The research studied the economic and climate implications of employing SMRs in Canada s high-emitting industrial sectors. (Image: CNA) The model used by EnviroEconomics and Navius Research, which has been leveraged by several organisations, including the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices and the International Council on Clean Transportation, explored a variety of cost and technical assumptions for deploying SMRs, which are currently in the research and development phase. Ten SMR deployment scenarios were modelled. Across all scenarios, SMRs delivered low-cost emission reductions, driving down the cost of getting to net zero as a nation.
