20% of Malta s residents are foreigners

For this year’s International Day of Families, the United Nations chose the theme of ‘Families and New Technologies,’ and accordingly, the NSO released a document detailing the figures of the Maltese population and other factors such as employment, internet use and benefits. The population of Malta rose by at least 100,000 people compared to 2010 and the number of Maltese people stood at 411,000 people while 103,000 foreigners were recorded in Malta. The sharp increase in the foreigner population is a far cry from 2010 when the foreign population numbered at only 19,000.
