MALAYSIA must start nurturing the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals from young because the sciences are an important component of the economy.
Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) president Prof Datuk Dr Asma Ismail (pic) said Covid-19 is proof that individuals and industries in the sciences are spared the negative economic repercussions resulting from the pandemic.
“Businesses in general are impacted but corporations that have science, technology and innovation as their foundations are shielded, with some actually recording a growth.

Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Aisha Musa El Saeed has hailed women and girls for the increasing role they play in developing science and shaping the scientific future in the world.
The TSC member, addressing the Sudan University of Science and Technology for the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Thursday, organized by the UNESCO Chair for Women in Science and Technology, in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Khartoum, said that the victory of women in Sudan in the field of science is a double victory, as it combines academic excellence and overcoming the complex conditions for women s education.

Four young women fellows of National Science Academies have been awarded for excelling in science and engineering on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2021.
The SERB Women Excellence Award that has been conferred on them provides a grant of Rs. 15 lakhs for a period of three years to the awardees to pursue their research ideas.
