22 February 2021 The Human Rights Council this morning began its high-level segment, hearing addresses by dignitaries from 21 countries. States outlined their national efforts to promote and protect human rights, challenges facing the multilateral order, and human rights violations globally. Many dignitaries highlighted the scale and scope of the challenges that States faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the deteriorating situation of refugees around the world. They outlined their national programmes in combatting COVID-19 and concurred that global challenges such as the pandemic required a multilateral response. In that light, the role of the Council was more important than ever. Some speakers outlined other issues like the importance of the rights of girls and women, gender equality, domestic violence, the death penalty, and issues around digital space, and warned of the danger stemming from far right nationalism and white supremacy which were becoming interna

PM hosts heads of UN agencies in Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception in Hanoi on February 8 for a delegation of ambassadors and chief representatives from United Nations (UN) agencies in Vietnam led by Kamal Malhotra, UN Resident Coordinator in the country.

At an online meeting on January 29 with health units in charge of establishing the hospitals, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long hailed the fast action of Hai Duong, with the support from the Health Ministry, the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. One of them was built at the medical centre of Chi Linh city, and staffed by 45 doctors and about 70 nurses who can provide treatment for 200 patients. The hospital has admitted 31 patients, including one with underlying diseases and two pregnant women.

Vietnam hails press agencies contributions

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs held its annual meeting with the press at the Government Guesthouse in Hanoi on January 19, praising press agencies and reporters nationwide for their contributions to the achievements of the diplomatic sector in the past year.
